Frank Mazor, LJ Hooker Brighton Le Sands

As the son of European immigrants, Frank Mazor knew that to achieve one’s dreams you had to work hard. He set his sights on a real estate shingle and, 30 years later, the hard work has well and truly paid off.

“I like real estate because you are helping people achieve their biggest goal in life: buying or selling their home. I really enjoy helping people,” Frank proudly states. “I’ve always been with LJ Hooker, the franchise, and we’re coming up to our 30th year in 2026.”

With an office on Bay Street, Brighton Le Sands, Frank and his team are well and truly part of the local community. “We do sales and the management of rentals; we try to focus on the two main things. We also do a little bit of commercial and retail but our main focus is sales and property management.”

“It’s the old saying: the best way to make wealth is out of bricks and mortar. There are many different schemes that come and go, but the safest way is bricks and mortar. It’s the great Australian dream: own your own property,” Frank says, explaining that European migrants, like his parents, understood this and worked hard to achieve the dream.

“We all had to learn. And if you wanted to learn and improve yourself there were opportunities everywhere, whether it was a trade, sales — whatever it was, we had to do it because we understood what our parents did for us; coming out here to a new country, not speaking the language. We were privileged enough to have that first opportunity. I only went to Year 10 but I’ve made a good life. Mum and Dad’s work ethic was the thing and that’s what it is; it’s instilled in you to work.”

Frank can’t clearly recall his first sale but he doesn’t underestimate the work involved. “Look, I was probably too young and dumb. That’s probably the reason you open a business, because you’ve got bravado and you think you can do it. And luck plays a part but the biggest part is hard work. You can understand figures, understand markets, but it’s your own hard work that you put into it that’ll get something back,” he says. “When you open a business — whether you’re a fruit shop or you’re selling burgers or a realtor — you’re up every morning trying to replace the properties you have with fresh, new properties. It’s a system that you just keep working at.

And after 30 years, Frank’s system seems to be working perfectly.
