Sydney Royal Easter Show 2026 – Charles Moses Stadium
“My family was in the timber industry, mainly tree felling and logging. I was about 2 when I started with a wooden axe. As I grew older I moved up to a tomahawk then a real axe; my first competition was when I was 12. I think you just love it. It’s a very hard sport to train for and to clean up after. Axes are a lot of work; I spend endless hours sharpening axes. I am a father of four and a small family business owner from Victoria — Hunted Engineering that builds Ute trays and canopies — so I’m a very busy man. Finding the time to train and prep axes means I am getting up at 4am to find the time to train and hone my skills to compete. There are handicap events [at the Show] and also championships as well as divisional chops. We’ve actually got quite a few world titles here in Sydney; eight world titles all up at the Royal Easter Show, and that’s why all the best axemen are here. I’m pretty modest but I’m trying to get into the championships and take out a world title. That’s what my goal is. We all catch up once a year at the Show; there’s a lot of mates and camaraderie. It’s good to catch up with the guys and see how far everyone has come over the last 12 months.”
