Bonnie and Abby, Yanco Agricultural High School

Bonnie and Abby, students of Yanco Agricultural High School, attended the 2026 Royal Easter Show in Sydney with a selection of cattle.
“We breed the steers and then take them to the Show for about 10 days where people can have a look at them, then they go into their separate classes,” Bonnie explains. “The steers are judged in lightweight, heavyweight, and medium weight just to pick out the best of the lot,” Abby adds. “We both come from agricultural backgrounds and we both have a farm back at home,” Bonnie says, by way of explaining her enrolment at Yanco. “The appeal is more practical, hands-on work which is what Yanco is providing,” Abby says. As well as breeding cattle, both young women are also partial to a cut of beef. “I like the fillet. It’s the smallest cut of the meat but it’s always the best,” says Bonnie. “T-bone is my favourite, to be honest, with a good gnaw on the bone afterwards,” Abby laughs.
