Nathan Thomas, Tradiez

You can’t go anywhere in Sydney without spotting a tradie. Plumbers, builders, electricians — they’re everywhere! And, according to Nathan Thomas of Tradiez, perhaps more so than ever. “I think nowadays, more so than 10 or 15 years ago, I feel like there’s more tradies around. That’s part of the reason why we went with the name Tradiez; it’s intentionally broad.”

Tradiez is a one-stop supplier of all things a tradie needs to get their job done: tools and materials, including Intex. “Intex is one of the major brands that we supply. They cover most of the major bases for gyprocking and interior linings, and guys who do ceilings and office fit-outs, that sort of thing. We try to cover a wide base and Intex allows us to do that,” Nathan says.

“The long-term scope for the business is to have a shop or a place where we can service more than just a specific trade. That’s why we wanted to be so inclusive with the name. Our long-term goal for Tradiez as a whole is to have a spot where all tradies are welcome to come in, get what they need and move on with their day without too much hassle,” Nathan explains. “One thing I’ve noticed over the years is people are more willing to stick with someone if they get good service from them. Our business model is a little bit left field of traditional; we don’t have a retail shopfront per se, and the whole premise behind that is so we’re out there providing exceptional service to our customers on the ground level. Rather than waiting for someone to come to us, we go to them.”

A previous career in the automotive industry has reinforced Nathan’s commitment to good service. “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that service wins almost every time. Price is one thing, right, but if you’ve got a good price but you don’t like the person you’re dealing with, you’re going to go find that product somewhere else. That’s human nature — everybody does that! If you’re getting bad service, you’re just not going to go there any more. The way we want to do things is provide that extra level of service.”

“We’re mostly five days a week, but if you need something on the weekend, I tell my clients to give me a bit of notice and I’ll get it there for you. I don’t want to stand in the way of someone’s project; if I want the business, I’m going to make sure I can service that client,” Nathan insists. “I want to be the first person they think of when they need help with something. We want to be more of a relationship partner rather than a shop you just turn up to to buy materials.”

So if you’re a tradie, why not see how Nathan and Tradiez can be of service to you and your business?
